New Year’s resolutions can be so cliché. Whatever you may or may not have resolved to do this year, we think that if you’re reading this, there’s a fairly high probability you want to get outside more often.
It’s something we consistently tell ourselves and our friends: get outside, be active, and connect with nature. It can help cure those winter blues, lower stress, and help you disconnect from the grind.
Whether it’s on the slopes, on the trail, singletrack, or campsite, getting outside and connecting to nature is good for the body and mind. Here are a few ways to make sure that 2020 is the year you get outside more often, to create adventures new and old.
Make plans
Look at your calendar and mark the days or weekends you can feasibly do something. Mark them down in your digital – or hardcopy! – calendar. Buy a book with local hike or camping recommendations and mark the places you want to go. Put it on your calendar! You’ll be more likely to actually do it when the time comes.
Buy passes – parking passes, permits, season passes
When you commit to something financially you’re more likely to do it. Now, we all know there are a ton of gym memberships purchased in late December that end up lapsing, unfortunately, sooner rather than later, but keeping that forest pass hanging on your rearview is a constant reminder of the investment toward the fun that could be had.
Start booking campsites now
Along with the “mark your calendars” recommendation, this is a surefire way to make plans solid. National and State Parks campsites usually book up fast, so go look now and see when you can get in. Get it booked and make it happen!
Get gear you actually want to use
Yes, that old stuff will work, but there’s something about new gear that makes you want to go out and use it immediately. We have a few things that might make you want to get out, like our Glacier Stainless Explorer Set for backpacking, or our Bugaboo Camper Nesting Camp Cookset. Definitely pass along your old gear, though, to family, friends, or charity.
